Holy Monastery of Leimonos - Kalloni
Founded in the 16th century, it is one of the most important spiritual and educational centers of Lesvos. For centuries, it functioned as a place of letters and theological cultivation, contributing substantially to the preservation of Orthodox tradition on the island. It houses a rich library with rare manuscripts and early printed books, as well as an important ecclesiastical museum with icons, vestments, and sacred relics.
The architecture of the complex, with its inner courtyard and surrounding cells, maintains the traditional monastic character. The peaceful natural environment and the sense of seclusion create conditions for reflection, visiting both a historical and deeply spiritual experience.
Holy Monastery of Myrsiniotissa
A smaller yet particularly picturesque monastery, dedicated to Panagia Myrsiniotissa, is built within a lush green landscape. Its location, at a point with an open view toward the inland of Lesvos, enhances the feeling of calmness and inner serenity.
The simple church and its surrounding spaces exude authenticity and modesty, elements that characterize many of the island's old monasteries. It is an ideal destination for those seeking a more personal and quiet experience, away from the more crowded pilgrimage sites.
